I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to use this word ever since I heard it in the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival production of “Forever Plaid”. The song is titled “Perfidia” and the crooners harmonized about “Perfidia” but I couldn’t understand what they were saying. So, I looked it up on Google:
Perfidia” (Spanish for “perfidy”, as in faithlessness, treachery or betrayal) is a song written by Alberto Domínguez (1911–1975), a Mexican composer and arranger born in the state of Chiapas, about love and betrayal. Aside from the original Spanish, other renditions exist, including Forever Plaid English and instrumental versions.
Here’s a beautiful Spanish version by Nat King Cole.
